Hutan Coffee is more than just a cup of coffee; it's a movement to protect Sumatra's lush forests and empower the communities that call them home. Crafted in partnership with KOPEPI and DRW, this coffee is sourced from smallholder farmers in the Bies, Gegarang, Jagong, and Bintang areas of Central Aceh, with the heart of the initiative based in Bies. Over 70% of the smallholder households involved in cultivating this coffee are led by women producers.

This release combines the Arabica varieties Gayo 1 and Gayo 2—local varietals that reflect the region’s rich agricultural heritage. The beans are carefully harvested, fermented, washed, and sun-dried.

Hutan Coffee is part of a reforestation project that plants trees in the main catchment area of Bies, west of Lake Laut Tawar. As part of this project, native species like Mindi, Trembesi, and Beringin are planted to restore forest ecosystems and provide habitat for wildlife. Additionally, income-generating trees—such as avocado, banana, orange, and durian—help support the livelihoods of local farmers.
